When thirty-year-old Sara Bruce of Omaha was fundraising via Red Basket last fall she was suffering from a mysterious, undiagnosed condition that was putting her life in turmoil. In the following letter, Sara talks about her experience with Red Basket and how the support of family and friends allowed her to breathe again:

My cousin, Becky, could visibly see I was going through a lot of stress with my medical bills and with my health condition at that time. It wasn’t good to have the extra frustrations. She knew that she and others could help me with monetary donations.

She had heard of Red Basket and told me that they are an extremely credible source and every penny donated helps the person in need. My cousin and many generous friends, we’re able to raise $4,100 in a short amount of time (10 days if I remember correctly).

When I received the money that was donated I was able to pay off $2,100 in bills right away. With a mortgage to pay, car payments, and other bills, finding that amount of money to pay right then was nearly impossible. I saved the rest of the donations for other bills that are still coming.

I try to advise anyone that is struggling with medical finances to use Red Basket. I had to turn in a couple of extra papers from doctors to verify that I did, in fact, have a medical condition but I think that’s what makes Red Basket so credible. People were willing to donate because it wasn’t like other fundraising websites where people have been known to make up medical conditions. Donors knew what the money was going toward and that it would get directly to me.

People responded to my fundraiser in an amazing way! It literally brought me to tears having the overwhelming amount of support. Once I’m back on my feet, you better believe I will pay it forward to someone else on Red Basket looking for help financially. I’ve been there.

Red Basket was amazing. I felt a huge weight lifted off my chest and could breathe again.

Many Blessing,
