#TipTuesday – The $5 Challenge

Sometimes $5 doesn’t sound like much. Let’s face it, $5 will hardly buy you your favorite cup of morning joe at the local coffee shop. But just think what $5 sounds like when you’ve got 5 of your friends, plus 5 of their friends, plus 5 of their friends pooling their money together to help you. Has a nice ring to it doesn’t it?

This week’s #TipTuesday is to pose The $5 Challenge to your supporters. The $5 Challenge is simple – get as many of your supporters as possible to rally $5 donations from all of their friends.

We know it can be hard to ask for money, so try some of these messages if you’re feeling like you’re in a creative rut:

  • OK friends. I am $______ from my fundraising goal on RedBasket.org. That means I need X more $5 donations. My “Friends List” isn’t that big! Could you rally five $5 donations for me today? I’m going to use the money to _________________. #The$5Challenge #sharethegood [INSERT YOUR REDBASKET.ORG URL]
  • Thanks to all my generous supporters, I’ve raised $______ so far! Thank you!! I’m trying to reach my $______ goal by midnight. That means I need X more $5 donations. Can you get at least five of your friends to donate $5 to help me out? #The$5Challenge #sharethegood [INSERT YOUR REDBASKET.ORG URL]
  • I know there are a lot of things you could spend $5 on, but donating $5 to me on RedBasket.org will help me pay for ____________________________________. Plus your donation is tax deductible. I only need X more $5 donations in order to meet my fundraising goal. Your support is appreciated! #The$5Challenge #sharethegood [INSERT YOUR REDBASKET.ORG URL]

Posing The $5 Challenge to your supporters is a great tactic to use during the middle portion of your fundraising efforts when there tends to be a slump in donations. It’s also a great way to spur donations when you’re nearing your fundraising goal. Hint: You’ll have to post often about The $5 Challenge and build excitement by keeping supporters informed of your progress.
