#TipTuesday – Put All Your Eggs in One Red Basket

When it comes to your online fundraising efforts, you probably think “the more the merrier” right? This saying definitely rings true when it comes to donations, shares, re-tweets and media attention, but when it comes to using multiple online fundraising websites, you may want to rethink your mantra. From our experience and that of other experts like Crowd Crux and Crowdfunding Academy, it is best to focus on just one online fundraising campaign at once for several reasons:

Confusion for the backers and media. Which fundraising website will you share on your social media accounts? Which site will you direct media to? Which site will you send family and friends to? It’s best to rally all the social media and hard-earned media exposure around one fundraising initiative.

Lost momentum. Everyone wants to be on a winning team and seeing your fundraising progress bar moving towards your final goal will motivate people to donate and share your story. You will lose momentum if you have your cause posted on multiple fundraising sites because backers will be split up.

Too much work. You’re busy to begin with and now you’re also trying to run a successful online fundraising campaign. There aren’t enough hours in the day to commit ample time to more than one campaign. You’re much better off spending the time you do have focusing on just one campaign, keeping it updated with new photos, posting videos, sharing the URL and thanking donors.

You’re not missing out. As we’ve told you from the beginning, the majority of your donations will come from those who have a personal connection to you or your cause. Seldom are there random strangers surfing the web looking for fundraising campaigns to support, so don’t think you’re missing out on a great number of supporters if you’re not on every site out there.

In summary, we don’t require that you shut down other online fundraising sites if your campaign is on RedBasket.org, we just feel it’s in your best interest and that of your supporters if you do. Plus, RedBasket.org has so many benefits over other online fundraising sites – have we mentioned that we are FEE FREE, unlike any other website out there – why wouldn’t you want to put all of your effort and attention into the best!
