#TipTuesday – Use Matches

Wait a minute. Use matches? Weren’t you always told not to play with fire? Well…we’re not talking about those matches. We’re talking about matching donations. Encourage your donors to take advantage of the matching donation opportunities that may be available to them!

Employer Sponsored Matching Donations
When someone donates to you through Red Basket, they are donating to a non-profit 501c3 organization. Many employers offer to match their employee’s donation to a non-profit. Encourage your supporters to ask their employers if a matching donation program is available. (Hint: An easy way to reach your supporters and ask them to look into matching donations is to make a project update.)

Woodmen of the World Matching Donations
Red Basket is funded by Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society. Woodmen pays all of our operating costs so that Red Basket can remain a fee-free site and 100% of donations go directly to our Askers. Awesome right? Even more awesome is that Woodmen generously offers a $25 one time per year matching donation when members donate to an Asker on Red Basket and elect to use their Woodmen match during checkout! Read our FAQ’s to learn more.

I’m a Woodmen member, how can I use my Woodmen matching donation?

Pioneer Your Own Matching Donations Program
If you know of someone who’s planning to make a large donation to your Red Basket story, ask them if you can promote it as a matching donation. For example, Uncle Frank is planning to donate $500 to you. Use Uncle Frank’s upcoming donation as an incentive for others to donate to you. Say something like, “It’s no secret that I love my Uncle Frank, but he sure can be stubborn! He’s generously offered to donate $500 to me, BUT not until I raise another $500 on my own. Please pitch in so that I don’t have to beg Uncle Frank!”

As you can see, there are many options when it comes to matching donations. By doing a little research, getting creative and informing your supporters about the matching donations that may be available to them, you can fast track your way to meeting your fundraising goal.

P.S. We know it’s Tuesday and you may be in a mid-week funk, but when you have time make sure you follow us on Facebook and Twitter to receive more fundraising tips.
